Logged on Exchange Admin Center (ECP), click on Mail flow, Receive Connectors and click on New. In order to allow external relay, we need to create a receive connector. That may be enough for the vast majority of applications including network devices (scanners, fax machines, and etc.). We know for a fact that any attempt to relay to a valid accepted domain will work, so we are good for internal flow. The most important thing here is to understand how Exchange works. From the security perspective that is really good, nobody will be able to use our Exchange Server 2016 to relay messages to other domains that we haven’t configured in our Exchange Organization, however for an internal service/application that needs to relay messages to external users, that is not good and we need to allow them to do that.Ĭreating a Receive Connector to allow relay to external addresses.
